The Neo Reality | Backbase Connect 2019
Backbase Connect is the main yearly event by Backbase. It provides thought leadership keynotes on the future of banking, product updates, technological capabilities, and business opportunities.
In 2019, the event focused on the Neo Banks that are taking over the banking industry with their revolutionary customer experience, seamless, digital onboarding processes, and easy-to-use apps.
Below, you'll see some of the steps in the big process we had to go through in order to bring such a grand event to success.
01 | Event branding
With the Neo Reality theme and our previous experience in Backbase Connect 2018, one thing was clear: we needed to drastically improve our game. And we took that very seriously.
We started by researching the fintech market and checking on our direct competitors (no surprise, we were exactly like everyone else). Adding to that, we looked towards Neobanks as a source of inspiration for our event brand. The result was a major shift in focus towards customer experience and the value delivered (in place of our previous product-centric approach).
As it was a complete shift from our cor brand, we had to work directly with the company CEO during every step of the process in order to get to a result that made strategic sense to the company and was well accepted by the top management.
02 | Promotion & production
The (Neo) event branding took us 6 weeks of negotiations to get approved, yet we kept working on the event promotion, designing a website, social media assets, and physical deliverables to get as many C and VP level attendees as we could.
The result was an event attended by 1000 people, with over 70% being on the senior executive level of banks from all around the world.
03 | The team
In the end, with all the work and complexity, this was a major milestone for the company and a lot of fun to conceptualize and execute. Being the art director was an amazing experience, especially once I could see the scale of what I and my team had accomplished.
Speaking of which, the design team responsible for this was composed of Sima Boyko, Funda Kahyaoglu (visual design), and Ernest Trimon (Motion Graphics/Video capturing and editing).
